Medication Management

Psychiatric evaluation and prescribing coordinated with your full clinical treatment plan.

Medication is one tool among several, and it works best when it is coordinated with therapy rather than delivered in isolation. Our psychiatric providers evaluate, prescribe, and adjust carefully, in ongoing communication with the clinician you see each week.

Care begins with a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation: symptom history, prior medication trials and responses, medical history, family history, substance use, sleep, and current functioning. Diagnosis is a working hypothesis that we revisit as we learn more, not a label applied in one visit.

We favor conservative, well explained prescribing. You should understand what a medication is intended to do, how long it typically takes to work, what side effects to watch for, and what the plan is if it does not help. Informed consent is a conversation, not a signature.

For clients with co-occurring substance use disorders, prescribing decisions account for interaction and misuse risk. Where medication for addiction treatment is indicated and appropriate, we discuss the evidence with you and coordinate care accordingly.

What clients gain

Questions about partial hospitalization program

No. Medication is always your decision. Many clients do well with therapy alone, and our providers will tell you honestly when the evidence supports adding medication and when it does not.

It varies by medication and condition. Antidepressants commonly take four to six weeks to show full benefit, while some symptom targeted medications work sooner. Your provider will set expectations at the visit where the prescription is written.

Yes. Psychiatric services are available on their own or alongside any level of care, though we do ask that clients receiving prescriptions also have some form of therapeutic support.

Prescribing decisions follow Texas law and clinical guidelines, including review of the state prescription monitoring program. Controlled substances are prescribed only when clearly indicated and appropriately monitored.
